Pune Police
have started Juvenile Aid Police Unit (JAPU) of Crime Branch, Pune City
under the supervision of Inspector of Police Social Security Cell, on 26.1.2003
for the jurisdiction of Pune City Police.
Structure of this unit nodal officer :- for the co-ordination between the
NGO's and Social Security Cell, Asst. Commr. of Police, Crime-II is working
as the Nodal Officer.
Police Inspector, Social Security Cell, Crime Br. Pune is working as the
incharge officer for this unit, 1 Police Sub-Inspector and 3 police constable
are working in this JAPU.
The Duties of JAPU
| 1. |
Registering the cases under Juvenile Justice Act 1986 ( amendment
2000), Child Carriage Prevention act child act 1933. |
| 2. |
Investigation of the cases regarding missing of the children. |
| 3. |
Producing
the missing children before the Supdt. Juvenile Welfare Board and
sending them to observation home for protection. Tracing the parents
/ relatives of the children & handingover the children to the
parents. |
| 4. |
Maintain the registers of the information regarding the missing children |
| 5. |
Producing Juveniles before the Supdt. Child Welfare Board and by the
order of board keep the children in name for shelter and trace the
parents / guardians and handover the children to them. |
| 6. |
Helping
for the shelter for the children from destroyed families, shelterless
children and newly born babies with the co-ordination of NGO's. |
| 7. |
Giving medical aid to needful children and follow the legal procedure
and help for the rehabilitation of such children. |
| 8. |
Preventing child marriages and follow the legal procedure for it.

JAPU, Juvenile
Welfare board and NGO's such as child line, ARC, Swati are working together
for the problems of children. The training for Asst. Police Sub Inspector
and police held constable is arranged for working the problems of children.
